Why move to San Pedro Alcantara
Move to San Pedro Alcantara for the Andalusian atmosphere, beautiful views and excellent food and drink.
Located 15 minutes down the coast from Marbella lies San Pedro Alcantara, a traditional Spanish town with fantastic views of the Sierra de Ronda mountain range. The town’s history dates back to the late 1800s, when it was an agricultural community that specialised in sugar cane production. The fact that this giant tropical grass thrived in the area gives a clue to the subtropical climate of hot summers and mild winters – both tempered by cooling breezes from the Mediterranean sea.
The town is divided into two distinct parts: the old town and the newer residential developments near the beach. The historic old town has a wonderful Andalusian atmosphere; head to its beating heart, the Plaza de la Iglesia, home to a pretty church flanked by narrow streets. Take a stroll around the surrounding streets to discover some interesting independent local shops. If you find yourself feeling peckish you could sample some delicious tapas in one of the town’s many restaurants and bars along the way.
You are a short stroll from the beach, where there is a large selection of restaurants to choose from along its palm lined promenade. There are plenty of charming beach cafés Chiringuitos to tempt you so you will be truly spoilt for choice when it comes to food. The area’s fertile agricultural heritage mean that an abundance of delicious local produce finds its way into all the local cuisine, not to mention the excellent catch of the day from the Mediterranean Sea.
